Sweden rewards bikepackers who value long, peaceful days in the forest, reliable infrastructure, and the freedom to sleep under open skies. Allemannsrätten — Sweden's right to roam — lets you camp on any uncultivated land for up to two nights, making unsupported multi-day touring genuinely accessible. The country is flatter than its Scandinavian neighbours, with endless gravel forest roads connecting small villages and pristine lakes. The Swedish west coast and the highlands of Jämtland offer more dramatic terrain for those seeking a challenge. Long summer daylight, well-stocked small supermarkets even in rural areas, and a strong cycling culture make logistics straightforward. Autumn is particularly beautiful — the forest turns gold and red across thousands of kilometres of bikepacking-ready tracks.

Best time to ride
June to August is the sweet spot — long daylight, open forest roads, and warm enough temperatures for comfortable camping. The shoulder months of May and September work well in the south. Autumn foliage in late September makes forest riding exceptionally beautiful. Winter cycling is practiced by locals with fat bikes, but most touring infrastructure closes after October.
